Dancing with the Stars at the EyeBall
本报讯 2012年9月29日（周六）晚上五时半，位于纳什维尔市中心的五星级大酒店“文艺复兴”大酒店（Renaissance Hotel）人头攒动，酒店的一万多尺的会议大厅里50多个大圆桌将坐满了来自纳城和外地500多位来宾，第八届眼睛慈善舞会如期闪亮登场。
美国国会众议院议员Diane Black及Glen Casada，新闻主播Rudy Kalis 及 Vicki Yates，著名房地产开发商Shirley Zeitlin，以及世界著名的白内障及准分子激光手术医生王明旭等都盛装出席了这一舞会。
当晚，在文艺复兴大酒店举办的第八届年度EyeBall眼睛舞会上，舞会的全程是在曼妙的华尔兹舞步及舞曲声中度过的。王明复明基金会(www.WangFoundation.com)是由她的创始人王明旭医生主办的，这是一家501 c(3)非营利慈善组织。到目前为止,该基金会已经帮助美国40多个州及其它55个国家的病人接受了免费视力恢复手术。
每一年的EyeBall舞会, 有500位左右嘉宾参加, 是田州首府纳城的一件大事件。今年的舞会主题是“与明星共舞的眼睛舞会（Dance With Stars at EyeBall）”,其特点是，当地的各界名流参加了当天的交际舞比赛,并由三位著名人士当裁判裁定胜负，这三位名人分别是众议员Diane Black, Danceworld的所有者、专业舞蹈教师Danny Baye以及“交际舞明星医师”---王明旭。交谊舞比赛之后由专业舞蹈家表演精彩的华尔兹和拉丁舞恰恰。
当晚的活动中包括由钻石公司举办的奢侈品无声拍卖会，一个妙不可言的晚宴, 同时还有由魔术师Kevin King表演的迷人魔法,以及由特色歌手Mirka Snellenburg演唱的数首歌曲,歌唱期间有来自全球教育中心的非洲土风舞蹈团为之伴舞，并有强大的现场乐队为之伴奏。最后, Danny和Sharlene Baye让每一个在舞池的人享受了专业的swing及华尔兹舞蹈培训。
2012年度第八届眼睛舞会的主席、众议员Diane Black,做了主旨演讲, 基金会赞助过的病人、 Martha Adams做了关于她对曾经因失明而生活在黑暗中的痛苦,以及后来因接受基金会医生为之做的免费复明手术而重拾欢乐的情感告白。眼睛舞会上也播放了一个有关基金会研究和开发世界上第一个羊膜隐形眼镜来恢复盲人视力的视频。
舞会上对基金会的董事会成员和赞助商，包括Mark Hilliard，Darrell Denson，Jeff Carter医生， Tonya Sherell，Rob Szeliga医生，Alan Davenport，Eliud Trevino，Craig McCabe医生，Bob Simon医生， Ann 及 Tony Hollingsworth，Charles Grummon， Carol Waugh， Scott Mertie， James Looper，《田纳西新闻》和Vivien Wang律师，Brenda Lee，Helen Boerman医生，Ted Welch 以及Amy Waymire医生，都一一提出表彰。光临2012眼睛舞会的当地名人还包括Colleen Conway-Welch，Ted Welch，银行家Farcin 及 Ziba Fardowsi。
由于9月29日纳城地区各华人社团举行中秋活动，和往年相比，当天到场的华人不多。王明旭医师和他的慈善事业，在北美华人社区相当罕见，也相当成功。参与慈善，是作为北美日趋壮大的华人和华人社区面临新的课题。记者鼓励更多的华人在享受北美美好生活的时候，带着感恩的心，参与更多的慈善工作。王明复明基金会给华人做出了榜样，也为提升华人的形象做出了积极的贡献，他们是北美中华儿女的骄傲！

On Saturday, September 29th, 2012, the “who's who” of Nashville put on their tuxes and ball gowns, and waltzed the night away at the 8th annual "EyeBall", which took place at downtown’s Renaissance Hotel. This evening of splendor was hosted by the 501c(3) non-profit charity, the Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration (www.WangFoundation.com) and its founder, Dr. Ming Wang. To date, the foundation has helped patients from over 40 states in the U.S. and 55 countries, with all sight restoration surgeries performed free-of-charge. This year's EyeBall, attended by nearly 500 guests, was an affair to remember. Featuring the first ever "Dancing with the Stars at the EyeBall", local celebrities participated in a ballroom dancing competition, judged by three talented judges, Congresswoman Diane Black, Danceworld owner and professional teacher Danny Baye, and “dancing doctor”, Dr. Ming Wang. Following this entertaining event were breathtaking ballroom dance shows in waltz and Latin American cha cha, performed by professional dancers. To add to the grandeur of the evening, guests enjoyed a silent auction of luxurious items hosted by The Diamond Corporation, a delicious gourmet dinner, a captivating magic show by magician Kevin King, and songs by featured vocalist Mirka Snellenburg, who was accompanied by a dynamic African folk dance group from the Global Educational Center and a spectacular live band. As you can imagine, this black tie soiree was anything BUT black and white! Later, Danny and Sharlene Baye got everyone on the dance floor where they were given a ballroom dance lesson in swing and waltz.
The EyeBall 2012 chair, Congresswoman Diane Black, gave a keynote speech, followed by foundation patient, Martha Adams’ emotional testimonial about the pain and agony of once being blind and living in darkness, and the joy and awe of now having sight as a result of the remarkable sight restoration surgeries performed free-of-charge by the foundation doctors. EyeBall attendees also watched a video about the foundation’s research and the development of the world’s first amniotic membrane contact lens to restore sight to the blind. For their contributions and support, foundation board members and sponsors were acknowledged, including Mark Hilliard, Darrell Denson, Dr. Jeff Carter, Tonya Sherell, Dr. Rob Szeliga, Alan Davenport, Eliud Trevino, Dr. Craig McCabe, Dr. Bob Simon, Ann and Tony Hollingsworth, Charles Grummon, Carol Waugh, Scott Mertie, James Looper, Attorney Vivien Wang, Tennessee Chinese News, Brenda Lee, Dr. Helen Boerman, Ted Welch and Dr. Amy Waymire.
Local celebrities spotted at EyeBall 2012 also included Colleen Conway-Welch and Ted Welch, and Farcin and Ziba Fardowsi.
